Manchester United’s link to Arsenal forward Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has re-emerged as Romelu Lukaku’s move to Inter Milan gets closer.
Lukaku has not featured for United in their two tour games in Australia so far and the striker’s proposed move to Italy appears to be inching closer with the Belgian saying on Saturday: “You guys will know something next week.”
Lukaku’s switch has previously seen speculation linking Aubameyang with Old Trafford with talkSPORT presenter Andy Goldstein, claiming a club ‘insider’ told him that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer wants to sign the Gabon frontman.
Aubameyang then liked an Instagram post calling Unai Emery a ‘puppet’ which sent exit speculation into overdrive and now FcInterNews report that Solskaer wants the Arsenal forward to replace Lukaku and that an offer of €69million (£61m) is on the table.
The Italian website say that Arsenal “try to resist” – however, it’s unclear whether Arsenal have rejected the offer and they could well do with a cash injection with reportedly just £45million to spend on transfers this summer.
Aubameyang, who has two years left on his contract, scored 22 Prmeier League goals last season, earning him a joint Golden Boot win and is rated in the £70million bracket.
An exclusive from 90min.com last month claimed that while Arsenal “will consider offers for their star striker”, there is “no truth to United’s interest”.
Just where the truth sits is unclear, but the link to Aubameyang keeps returning and Solskjaer cannot genuinely contemplating starting the season with Mason Greenwood in attack as he claimed on Wednesday.
