One key hurdle to pass as Man Utd plan swoop for irritated Bayern star

Manchester United will progress with plans to move for Bayern Munich midfielder Corentin Tolisso if he can prove his fitness, according to reports.

Tolisso moved to the German champions in the summer of 2017 and enjoyed a solid first season, chipping in with 10 goals and seven assists in 40 appearances.

The Frenchman was rewarded with a spot in his country’s World Cup-winning squad in the summer of 2018 before suffering a serious knee injury in September that year, which ruled him out for the rest of the season.

This term, Tolisso has been unable to reclaim his place in the side, having made only seven starts in 13 Bundesliga appearances.

According to the Sunday Express, the midfielder has become unsettled and is now set on leaving, with Bayern not expected to stand in his way.

The newspaper claims that Bayern are targeting a move for Manchester City winger Leroy Sane and are happy to raise funds through Tolisso’s sale.

United reportedly attempted to sign the midfielder in January – with Bayern unwilling to entertain offers – but the Red Devils are set to go back in for a deal now that the Bavarians’ stance has changed.

However, Tolisso needed surgery on ankle ligament damage last month and so United reportedly want the 25-year-old to prove his fitness before pressing ahead with talks.

Serie A giants Juventus, Inter Milan and Napoli and LaLiga side Atletico Madrid are also said to be interested.

Another midfield target that United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is reportedly keen on is Aston Villa midfielder Jack Grealish.

Sunday’s newspapers reported that Villa are unwilling to lower their valuation for their captain, who is expected to push for a move away regardless of whether the club remain in the Premier League.
