Arsenal are close to an agreement to offload a big-money flop, while Tottenham, Man City and the Gunners are tracking a Rennes youngster, according to Tuesday’s newspapers.
MUSTAFI SET FOR ROMA TRANSFER
Arsenal are set to offload Shkodran Mustafi to Roma on-loan this week, in a deal which entails a £23m option to buy.
The Germany defender has struggled to find his best form since a £35million switch from Valencia in summer 2016 and has been phased out of Unai Emery’s line-up this season after the £7m deadline day arrival of David Luiz forced him down to fifth choice in the pecking order. Sokratis started alongside Luiz against Burnley at the weekend, with Rob Holding and Calum Chambers pushing for places on the bench.
And now according to The Sun, who cites Italian source ForzaRoma, Mustafi is on the brink of a switch to Roma, with the Italian side still seeking to replace the departed Kostas Manolas, who moved to Napoli.
Roma had been looking at Liverpool’s Dejan Lovren, but could not agree a similar loan-to-buy package with the Reds. But it seems Arsenal are more willing to strike such a deal and the centre-half is expected to complete a move to the Stadio Olimpico in a matter of days.
