Jonny Evans: Defender linked with Arsenal switch

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has been told £16million will not be enough to sign Jonny Evans, while Mario Balotelli could be heading for Wolves.

Arsenal have targeted a move for West Brom defender Jonny Evans, but Albion will refuse to sell him, according to The Sun.

The finer details in the report are brief but the Gunners have apparently been told that a bid of £16million for the former Manchester United defender, 28, will not be enough.

Evans signed for West Brom from Man United last summer for £6million and Tony Pulis is eager to keep hold of the Northern Ireland international with just two weeks of the transfer window remaining.

Arsene Wenger is desperate to strengthen his defence with Per Mertesacker (knee) out for five months, Gabriel (ankle) for eight weeks, while Laurent Koscielny is not match-fit.

Valencia defender Shkodran Mustafi is understood to be Wenger’s top target, but Fenerbahce’s Denmark international defender Simon Kjaer is also Wenger’s radar, while he has apparently been priced out of a move for Atletico Madrid’s Jose Gimenez.

France Football say Fabian Schar of Hoffenheim and Monaco’s Marcel Tisserand have also emerged as two possibilities for the Gunners.

Liverpool misfit Mario Balotelli could reignite his career at big-spending Wolves, according to several reports.

The Sun, Express and Star all carry the story that Balotelli could be in line for a sensational move to the Championship side thanks to his links with super agent Jorge Mendes and Jose Mourinho.

Mourinho now has strong links with Wolves after his close friend Mendes sold 20 per cent of his company Gestifute to the Wolves’ new owners, the Chinese investment firm Fosun International.

Since the takeover, Wolves have undergone a massive summer squad overhaul with Portugal youth internationals Joao Teixeira and Helder Costa arriving on loan from Benfica to work under new boss Walter Zenga, as well as players such as Jon Dadi Bodvarsson and Prince Oniangue.

Balotelli meanwhile, reportedly sought the advice of Mourinho and the Manchester United boss has suggested he look outside the Premier League to revive his career

‘Oddball’ Balotelli, as The Sun have referred to him has no future at Anfield under boss Jurgen Klopp and has been told to find another club and Port Vale have also been mentioned, who are managed by Mourinho’s pal Bruno Ribeiro.
