Barcelona are reportedly panicking over Liverpool’s interest in a top Ajax star, while Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has angered the Man Utd players, according to Monday’s papers.
BARCELONA IN PANIC OVER LIVERPOOL MOVE FOR TOP TARGET
Barcelona are reportedly worried Liverpool will hijack their £75million move for Ajax centre-back Matthijs de Ligt.
The Catalan giants have already signed De Ligt’s Ajax and Holland team-mate Frenkie De Jong for £67million, and are keen to land the duo.
But De Ligt is also on the radar of a number of top teams in Europe – with a bidding war set to start once the transfer window opens, as reported in the Daily Mirror.
Ajax CEO Edwin van der Sar is already resigned to the fact the 19-year-old defender will leave club this summer, following his outstanding performances in the Champions League.
“I think these will be De Ligt’s final games with Ajax,” Van der Sar told Sky Italia.
“But I hope he goes out on a high. He’s been here since he was a child and will end up at a big club.”
When asked where he thinks De Ligt will end up, Van der Sar added: “I think he’ll go to England or Spain.”
Barcelona remain the clear favourites from Spain to sign the young star, while Manchester United pulled out of the running over concerns about the player’s weight.
That leaves Liverpool as the Premier League frontrunners, and the Reds have a secret weapon in Virgil van Dijk, who could make all the difference to a potential £75million move.
The Dutchman has formed a superb partnership at international level with De Ligt according Mundo Deportivo, Barcelona are concerned Van Dijk could sway the teenager’s decision this summer.
