Chelsea snubbed an opportunity to sign a major Liverpool target before the transfer window shut, while Mauricio Pochettino has made a major promise to Tottenham fans, according to Friday’s papers.
CHELSEA SNUBBED CHANCE TO SIGN LYON PLAYMAKER
Maurizio Sarri is reportedly keen to bolster his attacking options in future transfer windows despite choosing not to make a move for a major Liverpool target.
Chelsea held talks with Lyon over a prospective move for Nabil Fekir but Goal reports that the Blues opted against signing the World Cup winner over the summer after keeping hold of a number of key players in the same position.
Fekir saw a move to Liverpool collapse earlier in the transfer window after failing a medical due to a long-term knee issue, although there were strong rumours that Jurgen Klopp’s men were looking to resurrect the deal before the Premier League window shut.
The Lyon skipper scored 23 goals and laid on eight assists in 40 appearances across all competitions last campaign, prompting Sarri to make a late move for the player.
However, Chelsea were more focused on bringing in goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga and midfielder Mateo Kovacic later in the week after Thibaut Courtois left for Real Madrid.
