Gabriel Mercado: Liverpool link

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp “likes” Argentina’s Gabriel Mercado, according to the player’s club side, while Arsenal are interested in Fulham striker Moussa Dembele.

Liverpool are keen on River Plate defender Gabriel Mercado, according to the club’s president Rodolfo D’Onofriohas.

The 29-year-old right-back is currently playing for Argentina in the Copa America, but he has been scouted on several occasions by Liverpool, including in last week’s Argentina v Chile Copa America clash in Santa Clara.
And now River Plate’s president has confined Jurgen Klopp is interested in signing Mercado.

“Klopp likes him,” D’Onofriohas told Fox Sports.

“Winning a title with the national team would allow him to play in England.”

Mercado would need a work permit, which he has a better chance of earning if Argentina, who face Venezuela in the quarter-finals tonight, win the tournament.

Arsenal are interested in signing Fulham striker Moussa Dembele, according to reports.

ESPN claim the Gunners have joined the race for the 19-year-old with Arsene Wenger desperate to add some depth to his forward line.

Dembele’s contract is set to expire and a host of clubs have been linked with the exciting frontman, including Tottenham, Chelsea, Liverpool and Manchester United.

Dembele almost completed a January move to Tottenham after a fee was agreed and the player passed a medical, but Spurs’ reluctance to loan the player back to Fulham meant the deal collapsed.

The youngster was also invited to a game at Stamford Bridge in April, while reports in Turkey last week suggested his agent had met with Galatasaray.

Dembele hit 15 league goals last season in 46 appearances for Fulham in the Championship and he has so far refused to extend his contract at Craven Cottage.

The Gunners are waiting to see if Jamie Vardy will accept a move to the Emirates Stadium after triggering his release clause while Danny Welbeck is out on a long-term basis with a knee injury, but Wenger is believed to be keeping tabs on the French forward.
