Paper Talk: Leipzig to sell star striker to Man Utd on one condition

RB Leipzig are ready to do business with Manchester United for their star striker, while Tottenham are set to bid £30million to land a new right-back, all in Thursday’s papers.

LEIPZIG READY TO DO BUSINESS WITH MAN UTD

RB Leipzig may strike a deal with Manchester United target Timo Werner by saying he can leave at the end of the season but not in January, according to a report in the Daily Express.

Transfer expert Ian McGarry claims that was a similar tactic Chelsea used with Eden Hazard before the Belgian playmaker left for Real Madrid last summer.

Werner is attracting strong interest from both United and Chelsea and McGarry states that it is unlikely Leipzig will allow the Germany international to leave this month, as they currently sit top of the Bundesliga in their search for a first ever title.

But he believes it is possible United will get their man at the end of the campaign.

“[United have] scouted Timo Werner at RB Leipzig,” McGarry said on the Transfer Window Podcast.

“My information is that although Werner favours a move to the Premier League, Leipzig right now are top of the Bundesliga by two points, definitely have ambitions to win, which of course would be an historic win.

“Are they likely to sell their top striker in the January window when they’re in such a strong position in the Bundesliga in terms of challenging?

“I doubt it, despite the player’s interest in moving.

“But the kind of deal that clubs always, or very regularly, strike with players who want to leave is ‘Well give us six months and we will allow you to leave for a reasonable fee’.”
