Paper Talk: Liverpool, Arsenal to fight for £60m striker

Arsenal have a list of at least three strikers on their short-list to replace to Alexis Sanchez, while Wayne Rooney could leave Manchester United on a free transfer, all in today’s papers.

Arsenal are lining up at least three strikers to replace Alexis Sanchez, according to reports.

The Daily Mirror claims the Gunners “are lining up Alexandre Lacazette as a £60m replacement” for Sanchez.

Arsene Wenger “is privately resigned to Sanchez leaving” this summer and Lyon hot-shot Lacazette is top of their wanted list of targets this summer.

Arsenal tried to sign the France international last year but had a £35million bid turned down.

However, Liverpool are also interested in the player, who will have two years left on his contract in the summer.

The Daily Mail meanwhile claims Arsenal also have Borussia Dortmund forward Marco Reus and Porto’s Portugal striker Andre Silva on their short-list.

Manchester United are reportedly ready to reach a financial settlement with Wayne Rooney which would allow the England man to leave on a free in the summer.

Rooney, who is wanted at his old club Everton, has a contract at United until 2019 worth around £250,000-a-week, but United are prepared to come to an agreement over his contract, according to The Sun.

With around £26million owed to Rooney in his contract before tax it’s unlikely United would pay up the full value, but they are apparently ready to “compensate” him and let him leave on a free.

They will also not “insist on any clauses restricting him from joining a Premier League rival”, according to the report.
