Liverpool have turned their noses up at the money Atletico Madrid are demanding for one of their star men, while Manchester United are hopeful of sealing a third summer signing within the next week, according to Thursday’s newspapers.
LIVERPOOL FAIL IN ATTEMPTS TO LAND OBLAK
Liverpool’s hopes to persuade Atletico Madrid to part with Jan Oblak this summer look doomed, according to reports on Thursday.
The Daily Mirror claims the Reds had hoped to persuade the Europa League winners to part with their No 1 for less than his €100m (£87.8m) exit fee – but Atletico, unsurprisingly, are unwilling to play ball.
Despite having three years left on his contract at the Wanda Metropolitano, it’s suggested Liverpool had asked about the possibility of landing the impressive Slovakian for a reduced cost – but were quickly given short shrift.
Liverpool refused to pay that asking price given it is currently double the world-record fee spent on a keeper, so will be left to look elsewhere in their hunt for a new No 1.
However, they may be encouraged to keep on the trail of Alisson Becker, with Brazil teammate Roberto Firmino admitting he was doing all he can to talk the Roma custodian into a summer switch to Anfield.
