Alex Teixeira: Signing for Chinese club

Louis van Gaal’s position is allegedly back under threat at Manchester United, while Chelsea have apparently offered Alex Teixeira a contract.

Although he admitted they were “not good” against Sheffield United, Louis van Gaal was simply happy that Manchester United made it into the next round of the FA Cup courtesy of Wayne Rooney’s late penalty on Saturday.

However, United supporters once again made their feelings known about the performance during the game, with thousands leaving well before the end, and there has now been ‘a significant shift in stance from Old Trafford’s powerbrokers’ according to the Daily Star.

The tabloid claims that Van Gaal was privately assured over Christmas that he would get at least until the end of the season to improve results and performances.

However, the Glazer family have apparently ‘performed a dramatic U-turn, fearing that Van Gaal has lost the trust of the supporters and may not now be able to lead the team to a top-four finish and Champions League spot.

There are remarkably few transfer stories in the hard copies of Monday’s newspapers, but several of them have reported on their websites the claim from Football Insider that Shakhtar Donetsk forward Alex Teixeira has now been offered a contract by Chelsea.

Teixeira has been linked with a move to Stamford Bridge for some time and, according to Football Insider, an offer to the Brazilian is now on the table, though it is not yet been agreed.

Chelsea must also agree a deal with Shakhtar to sell the 26-year-old, but the Ukrainian club’s coach Mircea Lucescu said last week that he would not stop Teixeira from joining a top club in Europe should an offer come in.

“At the moment, Alex is Shakhtar’s player. We’ll see in the summer, [for] now there’s no point talking about it,” Lucescu told Shakhtar’s official website.

“This year, he needs to play so that he grows even more, despite the fact that Alex’s level is very high even today. In this case he will be even more in demand.

“At the moment there are no official proposals, so it makes no sense to talk about it. If there is an offer that will satisfy both the player and the club, I will fully support his move. I want to see my players perform in the best, top teams in Europe.”

Teixeira, who can play in any of the three positions behind the main striker, has scored 26 goals in 26 appearances for Shakhtar this season.
