Liverpool and Arsenal have joined Manchester United in the race to sign a £35m midfielder, while Tottenham are in talks to land a Championship star, all in Monday’s papers.
LIVERPOOL, ARSENAL JOIN MAN UTD IN RACE FOR NICE STAR
Manchester United’s transfer plans have been scuppered after Liverpool and Arsenal reportedly joined the race for Nice midfielder Jean Michael Seri.
Jose Mourinho is said to have identified the Ivory Coast star as his main option to replace the retiring Michael Carrick and Marouane Fellaini, who looks set for a free transfer exit this summer.
Seri has a release clause of £35million and has been strongly tipped to replace Paul Pogba at Old Trafford, with the France star’s long-term United future in serious doubt after falling out with Mourinho over his preferred midfield position.
Indeed, according to a report on Sunday, Pogba has revealed that he will only stay with the Red Devils if Mourinho is no longer the manager.
However, it would appear that United now have two major rivals for Seri after The Sun reported that both Liverpool and Arsenal are also keen on landing the midfielder.
Reds boss Jurgen Klopp is still looking to beef up his midfield, despite the imminent arrival of Naby Keita from RB Leipzig this summer while Arsene Wenger is looking for a replacement for Granit Xhaka, who has failed to deliver since joining the Gunners in a big-money move from Borussia Monchengladbach in 2016.
Seri, who joined Nice from Portuguese outfit Pacos de Ferreira in 2015, saw a move to Barcelona fall through last summer but it would now appear that he is heading to the Premier League.
