Paper Talk: Row over Prem duo saw Zidane quit Real Madrid

Zinedine Zidane quit as Real Madrid after a row over the signing of two Premier League stars, while a Borussia Dortmund star rejected a move to Manchester United in favour of Arsenal, according to Tuesday’s papers.

ZIDANE QUIT OVER ROW ABOUT TRANSFER TARGETS

Zinedine Zidane quit as manager of Real Madrid last week after the Frenchman and Florentino Perez quit over summer transfer plans – with David De Gea and Eden Hazard said to be cause.

According to The Sun, Zidane told the club he was leaving the day after a meeting with president Perez to discuss their summer targets, with the paper claiming the duo had a major disagreement over whom should and shouldn’t sign.

The paper alleges that Zidane told Perez he wanted to bring in Chelsea winger Hazard, only for the president to say no.

It’s then suggested “when Perez told Zidane he wished to bring in long-term target De Gea, the manager said he had faith in Keylor Navas.”

The London Evening Standard appears to back up this claim by suggesting Chelsea’s hopes of keeping Hazard have been given a significant lift by Zidane’s departure after they claimed the Frenchman had made the Belgian winger his No 1 summer target.

Reports in France on Monday evening, meanwhile, claimed Real had also agreed a deal to sign Sadio Mane from Liverpool before his departure as boss.
