Paper Talk: Tottenham braced for £50m Real Madrid bid for WC star

Tottenham are preparing themselves for a £50m bid from Real Madrid for a World Cup star, while Chelsea’s shortlist for a new keeper includes a surprise name, according to Saturday’s papers.

TOTTENHAM PREPARED FOR £50M TRIPPIER TRANSFER TUSSLE

Tottenham are reportedly bracing themselves for a £50m bid from Real Madrid for right-back Kieran Trippier.

Sources close to the player have spoken openly about the England defender being aware of Real’s interest, according to the report in The Sun.

And it is understood that Trippier’s impressive performances for Gareth Southgate’s men at the World Cup have made him a major target for big clubs in England and Europe.

The 27-year-old arrived at Spurs from Burnley for just £3.5million in 2015 but it is thought that has value has now rocketed to £50m after his displays in Russia.

The report goes on to state, however, that Spurs chairman Daniel Levy would strongly resist any formal approaches for the player.

For their part, Real have already spent £31m this month on Real Sociedad right-back Alvaro Odriozola and may decide that £50m would be better spent on strengthening other areas of their team.
