Paper Talk: Tottenham have three-man shortlist to replace Eriksen

Tottenham have a three-man shortlist to potentially replace Christan Eriksen this summer, while Arsenal are on the brink of signing a £26m defender, according to Friday’s papers.

TRIO OF NAMES TIPPED TO REPLACE ERIKSEN AT SPURS

Tottenham have lined up Real Madrid’s Dani Ceballos, Roma midfielder Nicolo Zaniolo or Giovani Lo Celso of Real Betis as a replacement for Christian Eriksen should he quit the club this summer.

Spurs smashed their transfer record to sign £63m Lyon midfielder Tanguy Ndombele this week but they are also looking a signing a more attacking midfielder, as doubts continue over whether Eriksen’s future.

The Daily Star reports that Ceballos, Zaniolo and Lo Celso, who are all under 24 years of age, all fit in with the kind of high-tempo football manager Mauricio Pochettino wants to play.

Spurs held more talks with Betis over Lo Celso recently but appeared to baulk at the Spanish club’s asking price, with Betis wanting at least £67m for the Argentina international.

They are also keen on Real Madrid and Spain star Ceballos, who has struggled for regular game time at the Bernabeu, while Zaniolo has been mentioned as part of a swap deal with Roma for defender Toby Alderweireld.

But having already splashed out close to £75m this summer, with Jack Clarke also arriving from Leeds, it would appear that Pochettino will have to part company with Eriksen if they are to add to their squad again.

Tottenham are believed to value Eriksen at £75m, given that he only has one year remaining on his contract, with Real Madrid and PSG already showing a significant interest in the Dane.

Indeed, Eriksen went public earlier this summer with his wish to leave and his representatives are currently gauging interest around Europe in their client.
