Paper Talk: Tottenham step up bid for £45m Ajax star

Tottenham have stepped up their interest in signing a £45m-rated Ajax ace this summer, while Zinedine Zidane has given Paul Pogba an ultimatum, according to Sunday’s papers.

TOTTENHAM LOOKING TO BEAT RIVALS TO AJAX ACE

Tottenham have reportedly stepped up their interest in making a summer move for Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund £45m-rated target Donny van de Beek.

The Ajax midfielder, who scored the winner in the first leg of the Champions League semi-final at Spurs last week, is being monitored as a replacement for Christian Eriksen – who continues to be linked with a big-money summer switch to Real Madrid.

However, the report in the Mail on Sunday claims that Mauricio Pochettino’s men will have to battle the two Bundesliga giants for the player’s signature, while Arsenal, Liverpool and PSG are also rumoured to have shown an interest in the 22-year-old.

Spurs may well have the edge on their rivals though, given their strong relationship with Ajax – having signed Eriksen, Jan Vertongen and Davison Sanchez from the Dutch outfit in recent years.

Pochettino has been promised significant funds to spend this summer, despite the £1billion cost of the new stadium, with Spurs tailing off badly as their title challenge has now turned into a battle to secure a top-four spot.

Jack Grealish, Wilfried Zaha and Ryan Sessegnon also remain targets for Spurs, who have not signed a single player in the last two transfer windows.
