Tottenham are ready to make a free transfer move on Liverpool for a soon-to-be out-of-contract star, while Manchester United are firmly in the race to sign a France midfielder, according to Tuesday’s newspapers.
TOTTENHAM PREPARE APPROACH FOR STURRIDGE
Tottenham believe they have found the ideal candidate to play back-up for Harry Kane in departing Liverpool striker Daniel Sturridge.
Former England striker Sturridge will leave Anfield at the end of this season as a free agent after Jurgen Klopp opted against offering him a renewal.
The former Chelsea and Manchester City man was expected to head to America and a move to New York City FC – but Tottenham believe they can keep him in the Premier League by offering him a chance to re-establish himself at home.
According to the Daily Mirror, Spurs are willing to offer Sturridge a two-year deal as a replacement for Fernando Llorente; Mauricio Pochettino’s thinking being that Sturridge, who is used to a back-up role these days, will provide cover and competition for Harry Kane.
Whether Sturridge accepts the deal remains to be seen and it could well be that the striker prefers a fresh start across the pond with NYCFC.
