Paper Talk: Man Utd told to forget signing Erling Haaland; Leeds target Brazilian

Erling Haaland Dortmund April 2022

Man Utd are out of the Erling Haaland race, while Leeds have been watching a Brazilian and Aston Villa are lining up a move for an England Under-21 international, all in paper talk.

Manchester United will not be signing Erling Haaland this summer.

That is the verdict from ESPN, who claim that sources have told them that United could not match the striker’s ambitions on the pitch.

The Old Trafford club are hunting for a new No 9 this summer, Ralf Rangnick’s has previously admitted as much. And that makes sense with Edinson Cavani set to leave on a free and the futures of Marcus Rashford and Cristiano Ronaldo far from secure.

Borussia Dortmund’s prolific Norway striker will not be pursued though.

United “indicated to Haaland and his representatives earlier this season they would be willing to match any financial offer he received from another club”. But they were told that Haaland was considering the “sporting project” and not just where he could earn the most money.

Manchester City and Real Madrid “lead the race” to land the player if he decided to leave the Bundesliga club this summer.

Haaland was understood to have a buyout in his deal this summer. But a report by Goal has claimed that there is no official €75m release clause in Haaland’s contract.

New information suggests the player instead has a gentlemen’s agreement with Dortmund.

Matheus Martins Fluminense

Leeds United are tracking an 18-year-old Brazilian to replace Raphinha.

The Elland Road’s club look likely to lose Raphinha this summer with a number of clubs interested in the winger.

And they are making moves behind the scenes to replace him with another Brazilian, according to Ekrem Konur.

Jesse Marsch’s scouts have been watching Fluminense winger Matheus Martins.

Ajax and Benfica are also tracking the Brazil Under-20 star. As per the report, negotiations with his club Fluminense “will start soon”.

Aston Villa are interested in signing PSV winger Noni Madueke, according to talkSPORT.

Madueke is an England Under-21 international and came through Tottenham’s academy.

The left-footer moved to Dutch club PSV in June 2018, signing a three-year contract after rejecting an offer from Manchester United.

He made his first senior appearance for PSV in August 2019 and is now a regular starter for them.

Madueke has scored nine goals in 31 appearances in all competitions this season.

Steven Gerrard and his assistant Gary McAllister watched the player in action against Leicester in the Europa Conference League at the King Power Stadium on Thursday.

Leicester boss Brendan Rodgers is also believed to be keen on Madueke. He labelled “a threat” in the build up to Thursday’s game.

Villa’s management team were also looking at another PSV player at the King Power, claims the report.
