Cristiano Ronaldo, Theo Walcott and Dani Carvajal linked with moves

Manchester United have been given fresh hope of signing Cristiano Ronaldo, Barcelona want Theo Walcott, while Chelsea are chasing Dani Carvajal.

Manchester United are plotting a £90million bid for Cristiano Ronaldo amid claims the Real Madrid superstar is ‘seeking a new challenge’.

That’s according to the Daily Mirror, who also claim Paris Saint-Germain are preparing a blockbuster end-of-season move for the Portuguese forward.

Ronaldo left Old Trafford in 2009 for a then world record £80million.

But Real will still demand £90m for their man, insisting his global appeal and proven scoring ability would justify a new record fee despite his age.

Ronaldo will turn 31 in February and sources close to the player’s camp believe he will move on from the Bernabeu for a fee closer to the £70m mark.

Whatever the price, United and PSG are known to want the double Ballon d’Or winner and are set for mega-money transfer scrap in the summer.

United have twice tried to bring Ronaldo back to the club since his departure but are hopeful a third move for him this summer would do the trick.

It is understood Louis van Gaal and co would match his £15m-a-year wage demands.

But United may fail to lure their former star back, with Ronaldo said to be keen on a fresh challenge in a new league, opening the door for French champions PSG.

Barcelona are preparing a raid on Arsenal for Theo Walcott to replace Pedro who joined Chelsea this summer.

The Catalan giants lost Rafinha to a long-term injury and sold Pedro Rodriguez during the summer, leaving them a little short in attack.

And Spanish paper AS claim that Barcelona will make a move for Walcott to add another option to their attack.

AS, who cite Sport Bild as their source, state that Barcelona are interested in the England international due to his ability to play across the front line.

Walcott is also supposedly keen on making a move to Barcelona as he would relish the opportunity of playing alongside Lionel Messi, Luis Suarez and Neymar.

Chelsea are planning a raid on Real Madrid in the January transfer window for right-back Dani Carvajal, while the Blues will also make a renewed effort to sign Kostas Manolas from AS Roma.

The Blues are looking to bolster their defence after a shaky start to the campaign, with reports that Jose Mourinho will be in the market for a new right-back following Branislav Ivanovic’s uncharacteristically poor start to the season.

Reports on Monday suggested the Blues were also scouting Roma’s Alessandro Florenzi, but it is Carvajal who is his top target to replace Ivanovic.

The Serbian’s contract is due to expire at the end of the campaign, and after seven years with the club his time at Stamford Bridge could be coming to an end.

Carvajal will not come cheaply, having signed a new deal with Real at the end of last season, keeping him in the Spanish capital until 2020.

The Blues are expected to make an offer in the region of £14million for the full-back, although given his position in the squad and remaining contract length a higher offer will more than likely be needed.

Italian publication Tuttomercatoweb, meanwhile, suggested that the Blues are also keen on a move for Roma centre-back Manolas, having seen a move for the defender knocked back on deadline day.

Mourinho had already seen three attempts to sign Everton’s John Stones fall through, along with a host of other defensive disappointments, eventually settling on Papy Djilobodji from Nantes.

But the Blues will make a second attempt to sign the Greek international Manolas in January in a bid to resolve their defensive woes.

When asked last week about joining Chelsea, Manolas replied: “Chelsea? I can say that, I have another five-year contract, I’m happy to be here [Roma] and I want to win something with this shirt.”
