Paul Ince poses daring question about Ighalo’s Man Utd stunner

Odion Ighalo

Paul Ince has questioned whether Odion Ighalo would have tried the move that led to his stunning Manchester United against LASK if the game had been played in front of fans.

Ighalo took three brilliant touches before crashing the ball into the top corner on Thursday, as the Red Devils effectively sealed their progression to the quarter-finals of the Europa League against the Austrian side.

The first leg of the last 16 tie was played behind closed doors, however, due to fears about the spread of coronavirus.

Speaking on BT Sport‘s coverage of the game, Ince admitted that he was unsure whether Ighalo would have been able to pull off his goal had fans been in the stadium.

“It reminds me of one of those goals you try in training,” the pundit said.

“Maybe I’m doing a disservice to him, but I don’t know…”

Ighalo’s goal was his fourth in eight games for United since his arrival on loan from Shanghai Greenland Shenhua in January.

Daniel James, Juan Mata, Mason Greenwood and Andreas Pereria also scored for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side.

However, the return leg at Old Trafford next Thursday has been postponed as part of UEFA’s wider decision to suspend the competition – as well as the Champions League – due to the spread of coronavirus.

Indeed, United will not be in action on Sunday either when they were due to play Tottenham, after the Premier League announced the postponement of matches until April 4.

In other news, Mata has revealed that he is beginning to form a blossoming relationship with Bruno Fernandes.

Fernandes grabbed his fourth assist in nine United appearances in the win over LASK.
