Juventus have identified Lyon midfielder Houssem Aouar as a more viable alternative than Manchester United’s Paul Pogba in their search for more talent, according to reports.
Pogba‘s future at Old Trafford is the subject of continued speculation given that his agent, Mino Raiola, has been vocal in recent weeks with comments explaining his client’s love for Italy.
Indeed, Juve have been heavily linked with bringing the Frenchman back to the club he left for United in 2016, with the futures of the likes of Aaron Ramsey in Turin uncertain.
Maurizio Sarri’s side have also been credited with interest in Brescia’s Sandro Tonali but according to Italian outlet Calciomercato, the Serie A giants have gone cold on those prospects and are now favouring a summer move for Aouar.
The source claims that despite costing considerably less than Pogba or Tonali, Juve will still have to fork out offers of over €60million for Aouar, who has scored nine goals and assisted six others in 33 appearances for Lyon.
However, the report adds that Juve feel Aouar will be worth his price tag and the Bianconeri are willing to stick around with interest in the hope that a summer deal can be reached.
Lyon head coach Rudi Garcia spoke out about the rumours in a recent press conference.
“I saw that Juventus would like our players and we would like some of them. On Aouar, I can say that he is our player, important,” he said.
“So players can make us win, I think about the [Champions League] match against [RB] Leipzig [in December], he was the architect of that victory.”
Aouar, 21, has been with Lyon since stepping up from the club’s Under-19s side in 2016.
In other news, United are reportedly weighing up the summer sale of goalkeeper David de Gea.
The Spain international has been one of the Red Devils’ best players since moving to Old Trafford but boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is said to have his sights set on adding the likes of expensive duo Jadon Sancho and Jack Grealish to his squad.
