Paul Pogba’s hopes of signing for Real Madrid are non-existent, according Spanish paper AS.

The Manchester United man opted to answer questions about Real this week whilst on international duty with France.

Asked by the French media directly about a move to join Zinedine Zidane in Madrid, he said: “Zidane? We all heard it, things were said. My reply? Yes, every football player would like to play at Real Madrid. It may be a dream. It’s a dream for me, why not one day?

“As I said, I’m in Manchester and I love my club. I’m performing in Manchester, I’m enjoying myself and I want to do everything to put the club back where it deserves to be. I’ll give my all, just like my team-mates.”

AS via Sport Witness were not at all impressed and suggested that Pogba was trying to manufacture a move to the LaLiga club.

Those efforts, an SOS almost, will not be heard by Real officials, claims the source.

His agent Mino Raiola has recently been informed Madrid have “completely ruled out” signing the 27-year-old.

Raiola knows as much too, while the paper also suggests the agent’s relationship with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is “completely broken”.

With the way that Pogba has played so far this season it is no surprise that Real and Zidane have other priorities.

Both Kylian Mbappe and youngster Eduardo Camavinga are believed to be at the top of their target list.

On Friday AS accused the France midfielder of throwing a tantrum over the comments.

Pogba’s contract expires at the end of the season, although United have the option to extend it by a further year.

As is customary the club will more than likely take up that option, even if it is to protect the player’s value. But exactly what United have planned for Pogba remains unclear.

Dressing room split

Meanwhile, Pogba has been named as one of the figureheads in a dressing room split at Old Trafford.

According to Paolo Condo, who works for La Repubblica, there is unrest in the United dressing room.

So much so that Romelu Lukaku’s decision to leave for Inter Milan was driven by the split. The Belgium international was apparently  unhappy with Paul Pogba and Anthony Martial.

Condo said: “If things don’t improve, the next transfer window will be used by someone to attack Matic, and in the background remains the boulder of Pogba’s contract expiration, set at 2021.

“The players, then, talk to each other.

“Lukaku was tired of United because Pogba and Martial were struggling to pass him the ball, a picture of a dressing room divided in groups.

“When Sanchez and Young asked him before signing how things were at Inter, the first answer was ‘really good, there are no clans’.

“Times have really changed.”
