Paul Scholes says talented Man Utd pair need loving, not flogging

Paul Scholes says the departures of Marcus Rashford or Anthony Martial from Manchester United this summer would be huge mistakes.

Former England midfielder Scholes believes the young United duo need an arm around them and not publicly flogging, which Jose Mourinho has done on more than one occasion.

Both Rashford, 20, and Martial, 22, have seen their game time limited under Mourinho and the latter has been linked with moves to Chelsea and Tottenham amongst others.

The talented pair have played second fiddle to Romelu Lukaku and Alexis Sanchez, but Scholes insists the pair must be kept at Old Trafford this summer.

“It’s a little bit worrying, especially the comment after the Brighton game,” Scholes told talkSPORT.

“These young players need an arm around them these days, they need a bit of love at times and they aren’t really getting that.

“Would they improve if they get that? I hope that they would.

“I know they’re good players, they’re really talented players.

“Those two especially, I just don’t want them to be players who leave and turn out to be sensational, because you can easily see that happening.”
