Paratici lines up shock new Tottenham head coach in amazing swap story

Paulo Fonseca Tottenham talks TEAMtalk

Paulo Fonseca is close to becoming the new head coach of Tottenham in what would be a sensational swapping of bosses between Spurs and Roma.

A number of Italia sources, including Sky Sport Italia and Fabrizio Romano claim Fonseca is heading for London.

The former has reported that Tottenham are in talks with Fonseca, whose contract expired in the Italian capital at the end of the season.

Romano suggests Daniel Levy and Fonseca, 48, are talking over a three-year deal. Fonseca is said to be “100% open” to succeeding Jose Mourinho.

Levy is even said to be ready to “decide to appoint him in the next hours”.

New Spurs director of football Fabio Paratici is directly involved in the deal, per the source.

Paratici has yet to be officially unveiled in Levy’s new two-tier management structure. However, reports over the weekend suggested sporting director Paratici was close to joining Tottenham.

Contacts between him and the club  were “at an advanced stage,” claimed reports in Italy.

Juventus announced last month that Paratici was leaving Turin after 11 seasons. The 48-year-old won 19 trophies in that time but when his contract expired this summer the decision was made not to renew it.

Paratici was expected to negotiate a deal to bring Antonio Conte with him from Inter Milan.

Mourinho, Fonseca swap

However, widespread reports on Friday evening claimed that a deal to take the former Inter Milan boss to north London had fallen through

Now it seems as though former Roma boss Fonseca is the man to replace Mourinho, who ironically has been appointed at Roma.

Mourinho was sacked by Tottenham in April after a downturn in their fortunes. They were outside contenders for the Premier League title after their early season form. But they suffered a slump since the turn of the year.

He was eventually dismissed shortly before the Carabao Cup final. It left Ryan Mason to take charge of the final and the remaining games of the season.
