Paul Pogba: Prefers squad No 15

France World Cup winner Emmanuel Petit says Manchester United target Paul Pogba is “a waste of money” after being valued at £100million.

New United boss Jose Mourinho has already landed Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Henrikh Mkhiratyan and Eric Bailly this summer and he is believed to have made Pogba his other top target.

Reports have suggested that United are ready to splash out in excess of £100million for the man, who left Old Trafford for Turin four years ago after refusing to pen a new contract.

But former Arsenal and Chelsea man Petit, who also won the European Championship with Les Bleus, is sure that Pogba is over-rated.

“They say £100m… it is a waste of money for me,” said Petit. “Pogba has a great future, but this move is too early for him.

“I don’t like the situation around him all the time. We are making him out to be a big star, but he is not a big star to me.

“He hasn’t reached the level of the Champions League yet or the level with the national team. I am pretty sure he can do it, but this is too early for him,” he told Yahoo Sport.

“People talk about him all the time in the press, but I haven’t seen it yet. For the moment, I am not really convinced.

“If Real Madrid wanted this player, they would put the money on the table, but they don’t want to fight with Man United for Pogba. There is a reason for that.”
