Petr Cech acts as peacemaker as angry Chelsea fan protest halts team bus

Chelsea legend Petr Cech was forced to intervene as tensions threatened to boil over during a European Super League protest outside Stamford Bridge on Tuesday evening.

Thousands of fans flocked to the ground on Tuesday afternoon to voice their opposition to the Blues signing up as a founding member of the controversial breakaway league. An angry confrontation at the entrance to the Bridge saw the team bus blocked as it arrived ahead of the Premier League clash with Brighton.

“Let people sort this out, but this is not the thing,” Cech, who is performance and technical advisor with the Blues, could be heard saying in a video posted on Twitter.

“Let the people in. Let the bus go in. Give people time.”

Fans only grew in number as the evening wore on, stopping cars from travelling down the Fulham Road as they made their feelings clear with chants of “f*** the Super League”.

In a statement released on Monday. the Chelsea Supporters’ Trust slammed their club over their involvement in the ESL.

“The Chelsea Supporters’ Trust is appalled that Chelsea FC are among the rumoured to have signed up for this alternative competition and hope that the reports are untrue,” read the statement.

“This proposal demonstrates the greed within football and as supporters, we are tired of the beautiful game being abused.

“Enough is enough.”
