Player of the Season Award: Two Man City, Arsenal players included; Man Utd, Tottenham, Newcastle also represented

The Premier League has officially announced the nominees for the ‘Player of the Season Award,’ with Manchester City and Arsenal players taking two places each.

Manchester United, Tottenham and Newcastle players make up the other three selections. It remains to be seen who will win the award.

Man City centre-forward Erling Haaland is the most obvious selection. Indeed, the 22-year-old Erling Haaland has had a simply incredible debut season in England.

He has also been nominated for the Young Player of the Season Award.

So far, he has scored a stunning 36 goals in 33 appearances, firing the Cityzens towards a third consecutive title. The tally is already a new record in the Premier League era, and Man City still have three games left to play.

Haaland is joined by teammate Kevin de Bruyne in the nominations. This is no real surprise, given how well the duo have linked up this season.

The Belgium international has once again played a key role under Pep Guardiola – scoring seven goals and making 18 assists.

Arsenal duo make POTS shortlist

Haaland and De Bruyne are joined by two Arsenal stars on the shortlist: Bukayo Saka and Martin Odegaard. Interestingly, like Haaland, they have both been nominated for the Young Player of the Season award, too.

Saka has enjoyed his best campaign to date, by far.

In 36 league appearances, the winger has scored 13 goals and made 11 assists. This gives him an impressive average of 0.66 goal contributions per match.

Arguably, though, Odegaard has been the pick of the bunch. In 35 Premier League outings, he has scored 15 goals, as well as making eight assists.

The attacking midfielder has also captained Arsenal this season and it’s fair to say he’s done a pretty good job.

Indeed, the duo have played a vital role in firing the Gunners to second place in the Premier League table.

If it wasn’t for Man City’s brilliance, they would have won the league title.

Kane, Rashford, Trippier nominated for POTS

The other three selections are Man Utd’s Marcus Rashford, Tottenham’s Harry Kane and Newcastle’s Kieran Trippier.

Rashford has been in tremendous scoring form this campaign, with his 16 league goals helping fire his team to fourth in the Premier League table.

Kane, on the other hand, has continued his typically prolific goal-scoring form. So far, he has netted 27 league goals – only trailing Haaland in the race for the golden boot.

We could see Rashford and Kane playing alongside each other for Man Utd if the Red Devils can prise him away from Tottenham this summer.

Finally, the only defender to make the shortlist is Newcastle right-back Kieran Trippier. The England international has played a key role in the Magpies’ fantastic season – with Trippier’s team sitting in third place in the table.

The recipient of the award will be chosen by a panel assembled by the Premier League’s sponsors. The panel consists of members of football’s governing bodies, the media and fans.
