Mauricio Pochettino: Hoping to keep Tottenham's star names

Mauricio Pochettino was “impressed” with a number of aspects of Tottenham’s performance in their 4-0 victory over Watford in the Premier League on Saturday.

Crystal Palace’s win at Stamford Bridge last week closed the gap between Spurs and Chelsea to seven points, which has now been reduced to four after victory in the early kick-off.

Antonio Conte’s men will have the chance to extend the gap against Bournemouth in Saturday’s late kick-off, but have Tottenham breathing down their necks.

Goals from Dele Alli, Eric Dier and a brace from Son Heung-min guided Pochettino’s men to a win over the Hornets.

“Many things impressed me, we played really well,” said Pochettino.

“We played with good energy and we very clear in the way in which we tried to beat Watford.

“The team deserve full credit because the energy was fantastic. It was 4-0 but we deserved more goals. The players spoke for me on the pitch and I am very proud of that performance.”

Son missed the chance to grab a first Premier League hat-trick, and admitted he was frustrated after missing a one-on-one with Heurelho Gomes before hitting the crossbar late on.

“I’m still upset because I wanted to score a first hat-trick in the Premier League but I’m really happy to get three points,” he said.

“The two goals was important but the result was most important.”
