Pochettino learns of Man Utd sale plan, with two-pronged attack driving deal hope

Paris Saint-Germain have belief that they could pull off a deal to sign Manchester United goalkeeper David de Gea, according to a report.

De Gea has faced increasing scrutiny over his future this season amid a series of errors and below-par displays.

Pundits such as Gary Neville have questioned whether the Spaniard can continue as his club’s No. 1.

Indeed, Englishman Dean Henderson has waited in the wings. The 23-year-old will now get a run of games amid De Gea’s return to Spain to be with his newborn child.

A previous report from The Sun claimed that United are planning to offload one of their stoppers this summer.

As such, a fresh line from the newspaper says that Paris Saint-Germain are monitoring De Gea’s situation.

The French champions, whose manager is former Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino, have opened the door to an ‘ambitious summer raid’.

What’s more, they have confidence that they are one of the only clubs who have the financial might to pull off a deal.

PSG can match De Gea’s wages, which make him the highest first-team earner at Old Trafford. In addition, they would be able to offer a fee that United would take into consideration.

Pochettino has experience facing De Gea while working at Spurs and wants him to replace Keylor Navas.

De Gea faced strong criticism towards the back end of last season, including for his display in the FA Cup semi-finals.

But while he kept his place last term, Henderson could yet go onto keep the 30-year-old out of the team.

The back-up England stopper returned to the team in Wednesday’s 0-0 draw with Crystal Palace.

The Red Devils have reportedly had a marquee forward signing on their radar for some time.

According to one pundit, Daniel James should be the man to make way if Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s men bring in a new star signing.
