Poch’s next move may impact chance of Prem return for former Liverpool star

Premier League clubs may have the chance to sign Philippe Coutinho from Barcelona if Mauricio Pochettino is not appointed at Bayern Munich, according to reports in Germany.

Pochettino said a shock goodbye to Tottenham Hotspur on Tuesday after five years in the role, quickly being replaced by Jose Mourinho.

However, the former Southampton boss could be back in work very soon, with Bild (via Football Espana) naming him as a candidate for the Bayern Munich job, which is currently held by interim manager Hans-Dieter Flick following the recent dismissal of Niko Kovac.

Pochettino is understood to be one of the preferred candidates for the role at the Allianz Arena – which would be good news for Coutinho.

The former Liverpool playmaker briefly worked under Pochettino at Espanyol, and the Argentine coach is a keen admirer and even wanted to sign him when at Tottenham. Therefore, Bayern are more likely to complete the permanent signing of Coutinho if Pochettino is appointed.

And in turn, Coutinho’s presence at Bayern is one reason that Pochettino would consider taking over in Bavaria.

Per Spanish publication AS, Barcelona will look to sell Coutinho even if Bayern pass on their option to buy him, which means that if Pochettino is not hired by Bayern, it could make an opening for Premier League clubs next summer.

A return to Liverpool has even been pondered for the Brazilian, who was reportedly offered to title rivals Manchester City over the summer.
