Paul Pogba TEAMtalk

Andrea Pirlo has been tipped to make a concerted effort to get Paul Pogba back to Juventus by one of his former team-mates.

Pirlo took over the Juve reins on Saturday after the dismissal of Maurizio Sarri, and he has been tipped to make changes this summer.

Already he reportedly has six players he wants to ship out of Turin, including Aaron Ramsey.

The 41-year-old also has incoming transfer plans, after stepping up from the club’s U23 manager after just a week at the helm.

And his former Italy and Juventus pal Luca Toni says he will bolster his midfield as a first job.

Toni, 43, who made 47 appearances for the Azzurri, says Pogba will be his No.1 target.

Toni told Tuttosport: “Knowing Andrea, he will start building from midfield. The ideal gift would be Pogba. I don’t know if that’s possible, but it would certainly be the best option.

“Andrea will not be a coach who focuses on defending and counter-attacking. He loves to dominate the ball and will want to impose that on his team.

“I don’t know what system he will use and I don’t think it matters. Andrea is intelligent and flexible.’

Pogba re-joined United in an £89m transfer from Juventus in 2016 and he was linked with a return earlier in the summer.

Now though it would take a monumental effort to lure Pogba away from Old Trafford, given Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s comments.

The 27-year-old has emerged post-lockdown with fresh motivation, and Solskjaer is delighted.

The Norwegian said: “Since coming back from injury he has been a delight. He has worked really hard, he is happy and he is playing well.

“We are going to see the best of Paul in the next couple of seasons, I’m sure. And I’m looking forward to seeing him grow with this team.

“He will have to be one of the leaders, one of the main figures, because he is just coming to his peak time as a footballer at 27.

“I am really looking forward to working with him.”

The Sun have also reported that Pogba is close to finalising a huge new five-year deal at United.
