Potter insists losing to Man Utd wasn’t ‘fair’ outcome for ‘dominant’ Brighton

Graham Potter said that all the minor details went in Manchester United’s favour as Brighton missed out on any points against Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side.

Brighton were on top for large parts of the game and took the lead through a Neal Maupay penalty, before United turned the game around.

However, the hosts thought they had got the point they deserved when Solly March headed home in stoppage time. But it wasn’t the last action, and a Bruno Fernandes penalty with the last kick of the game took away Brighton’s point.

The Seagulls had more possession and more than twice the number of shots that United did. Leandro Trossard hit the woodwork three times.

But Brighton were not rewarded for their positive performance – although manager Potter was still left amazed by it.

He told BBC Sport: “The performance level was amazing from us, I’m so proud of the players.

“It’s a sore one, to say the least. Sometimes life isn’t fair and it feels like that at the moment.

“All the little things have gone against us but we were really good for 90 minutes and we have to take that forwards.

“We have developed as a group, as a team, and we will take that setback as positively as we can.

“I don’t know what the shotcount was but we were dominant. We deserved something from the game to say the least.”

Solskjaer admits Brighton made life difficult

United boss Solskjaer knew it had been a tough game by the final whistle, admitting afterwards that they struggled to keep up with Brighton at times.

“They created too much for my liking but they’re a difficult team to play against,” Solskjaer said.

“We tried to press, they’ve got really good ball players at the back so we didn’t really get there.

“And then you can see we didn’t have the legs or the sharpness or the legs still, but we’ll get there.”
