Preston charged over trouble

Preston won the two-legged Division One tie before going on to beat Swindon 4-0 at Wembley and secure a place in next season’s Championship.

During the pitch invasion that followed the second leg at Deepdale, Chesterfield defender Ian Evatt, a former Preston player, was assaulted by a 20-year-old apprentice mechanic who was later given a three-year ban from football.

Evatt claims he was punched, kicked and spat at during the pitch invasion and suggested the FA take action against Preston to stop more violent scenes in the future.

The governing body have now charged Preston for failing to prevent the incident happening and have given them until June 15 to respond.
