PSG make cunning move to thwart Man Utd in race for top midfield talent

Eduardo Camavinga Rennes v Dijon April 2021

Paris Saint-Germain will offer one of their first-team players to Rennes to sweeten a deal for Manchester United target Eduardo Camavinga, according to reports.

Camavinga is one of the brightest prospects in European football, having established himself as a regular for Rennes at the age of 18. Already the owner of their number 10 shirt, he has 67 Ligue 1 appearances to his name already. Naturally, he is attracting interest from the continent’s biggest clubs.

Man Utd have been heavily linked with the Frenchman in recent weeks. Amid doubts over the future of Paul Pogba, Camavinga would be an ideal reinforcement with one eye to the future. But he has already shown he is capable of competing in the present as well.

There were claims that United could take him for around €30m, although these were laughed off by Rennes. Nevertheless, he is only under contract for another year, so the French side will be keen to make some money if he does not renew.

But United are not Camavinga’s only suitors. PSG would also like to offer him a new platform whereby he could stay in Ligue 1. The capital club have already reinforced their midfield this summer with ex-Liverpool man Georginio Wijnaldum. But they could add further options there, like Camavinga.

July 7 Transfer Chatter - Chelsea offered Barcelona forward, Aston Villa pushing for Emile Smith-Rowe and Spurs join Kounde race

Chelsea offered Barcelona attacker for cheap due to the financial crisis at the club, Aston Villa to make third bid for Arsenal starlet and Tottenham to lodge opening bid in the race for Jules Kounde, all in today's transfer chatter.

In an effort to do so, according to the Daily Mirror – citing reports from France – PSG have put Thilo Kehrer on a plate for Rennes in return. The German defender has been with them since 2018, making 58 league appearances. However, if they manage to sign Sergio Ramos on a free transfer, Kehrer may well be surplus to requirements.

Therefore, PSG are willing to offer him to Rennes as a makeweight for Camavinga. It is clear that the teenager could cost more than Man Utd or PSG are expecting. But a cash-plus-player deal could drive the fee down.

There has been no official proposal for Camavinga yet, but PSG are hoping to tempt Rennes whenever they do enter negotiations. His current club remain steadfast though and will do all they can to find the best solution for them.

Man Utd told who they should sign instead of Camavinga

Rio Ferdinand has explained why Manchester United need to prioritise the signing of an England man before they splash the cash on brining in Eduardo Camavinga.

The former defender claims one man’s performances at Euro 2020 have convinced him he is ready for a bigger stage.

If PSG do end up getting Camavinga instead, then perhaps United will turn their attention in such a direction…
