Paris Saint-Germain are set to table a huge contract offer to Napoli centre-back Kalidou Koulibaly, just days after reports suggested Manchester United had agreed to sign him.
Koulibaly is one of the strongest defenders in the world, leading to regular links away from Napoli – with the rumours only set to increase given that the Italian side look certain to miss out on Champions League football next season.
The Senegal international has been on Manchester United’s radar for several years, and those links appeared to reach a climax on Tuesday when an Italian journalist claimed that a move to Old Trafford was virtually done.
“Napoli will sell Kalidou Koulibaly to Manchester United for a figure of around 70-75m euros. It seems all done,” Fabio Santini told Il Processo.
“Naturally, such a deal will be closed only in June and certainly not in January in the winter transfer window.”
However, the race to sign him is not over yet, as Foot Mercato reveal that PSG are willing to make a €12m salary offer (just short of £200,000-per-week) to tempt him to the Parc Des Princes.
It is claimed that Napoli have lowered their asking price from €100m to €75m after Koulibaly told them his desire to leave, and that PSG are ready to take advantage.
Koulibaly has been linked with PSG before, but was said to be hesitant to accept their proposals. Now that situation may have changed, and they believe they could convince him to be the successor to Thiago Silva.
Foot Mercato do not discount the interest from Manchester United, as well as Manchester City and Real Madrid – but nothing is mentioned of the recent reports claiming his agent was in talks with Tottenham Hotspur and Chelsea.
It is said that Koulibaly “dreams” of a move to Old Trafford, where he would prove to be a solid partner for captain Harry Maguire.
