Euro giants eye up Chelsea star in January to fill void left by teammate

Paris Saint-Germain remain in the hunt for Chelsea defender Antonio Rudiger, according to reports in France.

Rudiger came close to leaving Chelsea in the summer after falling down the pecking order. However, he was eventually convinced to stay at Stamford Bridge and fight for his place.

He has been unable to nail down a regular role since then, though. He has made just one appearance in the Premier League, although he featured more frequently in the Champions League group stage.

That may not have been enough for him to decide to continue his spell with Chelsea. Indeed, he recently admitted he is not happy with his situation.

Therefore, the 27-year-old may have to consider a move away in January. He has been mentioned as a surprise target for Barcelona, for example.

Now, another suitor appears to have firmed up their interest in him. According to Le Parisien, PSG remain keen to sign Rudiger.

The French champions let go of Thiago Silva in the summer without replacing him. The answer could now come from one of his new teammates.

PSG have reportedly identified Rudiger as someone who can fill the void that was left by Silva’s departure at the end of last season.

Tuchel desperate for reinforcements

Currently third in Ligue 1, the side from the French capital know they need reinforcements in January. Indeed, the report says boss Thomas Tuchel will “try everything” to bring in new faces.

Rudiger is near the top of the wishlist. A deal is not necessarily straight-forward, but Tuchel is hopeful he can take his German compatriot to France.

PSG have conceded the fewest goals of any Ligue 1 team so far, but it is clear they cannot last the whole season with their current limited options.
