Chelsea winger Christian Pulisic says he is “excited” for what the future holds at Stamford Bridge after the Blues confirmed the signing of Timo Werner.

Chelsea announced the acquisition of RB Leipzig striker Werner on Thursday and the 24-year-old will join ahead of next season.

The German is the second confirmed arrival for Blues boss Frank Lampard, alongside Ajax’s Hakim Ziyech.

The pair will add significantly to the growing excitement about Chelsea’s attack, which already features Pulisic and Tammy Abraham.

Indeed Werner, who Liverpool targeted before the Reds refused to trigger his £50million release clause, has scored 32 goals in 44 appearances this season.

America international Pulisic said: “We already have a really strong team with very good players.

“To add guys like [Werner] is incredible. We’re focused on this season right now but we’re also excited for what’s to come.”

The arrivals of Ziyech and Werner are part of a reshuffling of Chelsea’s attack ahead of next season.

Willian, who joined in 2013, will leave while Pedro will also go. Reports claim Roma are keen on the latter Spaniard.

Chelsea resumed their Premier League campaign with a 2-1 win over struggling Aston Villa on Sunday.

The Blues were camped in the Villa half for the first 40 minutes but the hosts took the lead from one of few forays forward.

However, Pulisic came off the bench to equalise before Olivier Giroud completed the comeback.

Lampard said he was delighted with Pulisic’s performance off the bench to help his side claim all three points on Sunday.

The manager said: “He was hungry and I felt for him, like a lot of the players. He has trained well.

“His ability to arrive in the box is great and I think he can get big numbers.”
