Pundit claims West Ham laughing if they can land ‘top, top player’ for £10m

Odsonne Edouard Celtic, France March 2021

Paul Robinson believes that West Ham would be getting a fantastic deal if they can sign striker Odsonne Edouard from Celtic this summer.

The Hammers have been searching for a new marksman since Sebastian Haller’s departure in January. David Moyes’ side accepted a big loss on their club-record signing, who left for Ajax. In response, West Ham went on the lookout for a replacement, exploring several avenues without success.

Indeed, they made a strong bid for Sevilla’s Youssef En-Nesyri, which the La Liga club swiftly turned down.

Since then, Hoops hitman Edouard has emerged as a candidate on their radar.

The Frenchman will enter the final year of his contract this summer, leaving him exposed to an exit. In fact, Football Insider claims that there is a ‘fear’ within Celtic that he could leave for between £8million and £10million.

Edouard is also a firm target for Leicester, who are searching for Jamie Vardy’s long-term successor. Foxes boss Brendan Rodgers has history with Edouard, signing him while at Parkhead.

Borussia Dortmund have also reportedly shown interest, but Robinson told Football Insider that he can see the striker fitting in at West Ham.

“He would be a great signing for any club, especially if you can get him for £10m,” the former goalkeeper said.

Moyes: No disappointment if West Ham miss out on top four

Moyes: No disappointment if West Ham miss out on top four

West Ham manager David Moyes says they will not be disappointed if they miss out on a top-four place with the Hammers sitting a point above Chelsea in fourth.

“You’d bite their hand off at that price.

“Edouard is a top, top player who has a lot of strings to his bow. He can drift wide, come deep and score goals. The Premier League would suit him as a player.

“I could see him settling in well if he moved to West Ham. I think he will have a big impact if he comes.”

Edouard has scored 81 goals in 165 games for Celtic, including 20 goals in 37 outings this term.

Other options available for West Ham

Tammy Abraham, Billy Gilmour Barnsley v Chelsea February 2021

Aside from Edouard and En-Nesyri, other players have been mooted with solving the striker issue at West Ham.

Chelsea’s Tammy Abraham is seemingly in a rut and TEAMtalk understands that he faces being stuck at Stamford Bridge unless he lowers his wage demands.

Furthermore, Brentford’s Ivan Toney could be an option; Aston Villa have enjoyed great success after raiding the Championship club for Ollie Watkins last summer.
