Pundit claims winger is finished at Liverpool as next club is named

Francisco Sierralta, Harry Wilson

Harry Wilson has played his last game for Liverpool and will be sold by the Reds this summer, according to one pundit.

The 24-year-old is currently on a season-long loan deal with Cardiff in the Championship. After a slow start, he seems to have his feet in his native Wales. However, his chances of carving out a career at Anfield appear bleak.

Indeed, this is Wilson’s fifth loan stint away from Merseyside. He spent successful spells with Bournemouth and Derby prior to this season.

Wilson reminded Liverpool of his talents with a fine strike for Wales against Belgium on Wednesday night.

However, having only made one senior appearance for Liverpool, pundit Kevin Phillips suggests he won’t get another.

Indeed, Phillips says Wilson – who has four goals and 10 assists for the Bluesbirds – could join them permanently.

“I don’t think Wilson has a future at Liverpool,” he told Football Insider. “I cannot see him playing for them again if I am being honest.

“It was a magnificent finish last night and what about the move as well, amazing.

“Cardiff have every opportunity of coming up to the Premier League the way they are going. If I am Mick, I would look to sign him permanently and have him playing week in, week out.

Mick McCarthy is not getting carried away by Cardiff’s superb form but reserved special praise for Harry Wilson after his stunning goal in the win at Luton.

“His career would start to go backwards if he went back to Liverpool in the summer. He is excelling playing football week in, week out at the moment so I think he would want to leave in the summer.”

Wilson is contracted to Liverpool until summer 2023 but could be allowed to leave for just £10m in this summer’s transfer window.

Fabinho backed to play key role

Liverpool assistant manager Pep Lijnders believes the return to midfield of Fabinho can ensure the Reds enjoy a positive end to the season.

The Brazilian has been forced to cover in central defence for large periods this season. A season-ending ACL injury suffered by Virgil van Dijk meant Jurgen Klopp quickly turned to Fabinho as cover. Further injuries to first Joe Gomez and then Joel Matip further increased their reliance upon him.

However, the blossoming partnership of Ozan Kabak and Nat Phillips in defence has allowed Fabinho to return to his natural role.

His presence back in midfield has sparked an improvement from Liverpool.

“About Fabinho, I only want to say he has the capacity to make the players around him better,”Lijnders said. “It’s really difficult to find players who have the talent to make the other ones flourish.

“There are just a few players in world football who have this natural capacity to stop counters, for example; most of them just tactically foul.

“He just always puts the team above himself. By the way, all our Brazilians have this characteristic. Nobody likes them, everybody loves them.”
