Pundit: Impact of one Man Utd player ‘speaks volumes’ about club crisis

Danny Mills has said that the fact that winger Daniel James has become Manchester United’s “go-to” player for goals this season “speaks volumes” about the club’s crisis.

United headed into the international break in 12th in the Premier League and on their worst away run in 30 years, following a 0-0 draw with AZ Alkmaar and a 1-0 defeat to Newcastle United.

James and Rashford have both scored three Premier League goals this season but the latter was particularly poor against the Magpies on Sunday – managing just 21 touches of the ball – and Mills claimed that James has wrongly United’s key man up top.

“Dan James is probably the only one where you look at him, he’s almost become the main man at Manchester United,” the pundit told Football Insider.

“The new kid on the block, you’d usually you’d get 10 minutes off the bench, 20 minutes off the bench, a start in the cup, maybe a start in the league, back on the bench for two or three games – that’s the way Manchester United used to be with young players in the squad.

“Suddenly now he’s almost the first name on the team sheet and he’s the go-to guy to create chances score goals and score goals. That speaks volumes about Manchester United and the dire situation Manchester United are in.”

United return from the international break with a Premier League clash against Liverpool at Old Trafford.

Meanwhile, one report has claimed that Ed Woodward was told by Red Devils boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer that the Norwegian wanted nine players to leave the club in the summer.
