Tottenham told Kane already has new club as big fear raised about Levy handling
Jamie Redknapp reckons that Harry Kane already has his future mapped out for when he leaves Tottenham in this summer’s transfer window.
Speculation over the Spurs striker has been rife for some time, amid another trophy-less season for the club. However, those doubts have taken a step up this week. Reports on Monday claimed that he told his employers that he wants to leave. On Wednesday, meanwhile, he gave Tottenham fans a lap of honour by himself.
The exit reports also claimed that Kane wants to stay in the Premier League. As such, links with Manchester City, Manchester United and Chelsea – who would be able to afford him – have heightened.
This summer will still prove crucial in other ways for Tottenham; a new manager will come in and oversee a massive transfer window in a bid to get the club back up the table.
However, Redknapp told Sky Sports that the Kane situation has amplified the concerns for Spurs. He added that he has fears over chairman Daniel Levy’s handling of the situation.
“I feel their pain, they have no manager, their star player wants to leave. It does not bode well for next season,” the pundit said.
“The European Super League has not gone down very well. Daniel Levy has made a lot of mistakes, and it a huge summer for him as chairman of this club. He has to get the big decisions right.
“When a player comes out saying he wants to go, that normally means there is something arranged. Harry Kane probably has a club he knows he can go to, there might be a gentleman’s agreement.”
'You can't blame Harry Kane for wanting trophies'
Gabby Agbonlahor told Super Sunday Matchday he is not surprised that Harry Kane will ask to leave Tottenham this summer if they fail to qualify for the Champions League.
Kane, who turns 28 in July and is approaching the peak of his career, will subsequently be valued at at least £100million.
Talk of swap deals with United have emerged, with a surprise name entering the fray for the Red Devils.
However, Redknapp insists that Spurs should focus on using the money they would get wisely.
Tottenham must use Kane funds wisely
“Levy won’t sell Kane for a cut price because he has said he wants to leave, so it will make for a very difficult summer for them,” he added.
“But if they do sell him, they have to sign some great players to keep the fans happy. Last time they sold their star player in Gareth Bale, they ended up with a load of poor players that didn’t work out.
“They can’t make the mistake like they did when Bale left last time, and bringing in five or six players who are not good enough.”
Kane’s lap of honour came after Tottenham’s dismal home defeat to Aston Villa.
