Pundit makes exciting Leeds prediction as he names four standout stars

Former Rangers manager Ally McCoist insists Leeds have within them to continue climbling the table and claiming a Europa League berth this season.

United’s comfortable 2-0 win over Crystal Palace on Monday night lifted Leeds into the top half of the table. Not all bad for a newly-promoted club, with Marcelo Bielsa highlighting what particularly impressed him afterwards.

However, McCoist thinks Leeds could finish even higher and insists a Europa League spot is not beyond them.

He told talkSPORT: “They do leave themselves open defensively, but they’re a great side. Can they finish in Europe? I’m not sure, but the way this season is going anything can happen.

“The way they’ve been playing, they’re more than capable of winning three, four, five games out of six. They could get themselves into that position.

“I think they’ll finish mid-table, which will be more than acceptable for them. But you wouldn’t rule it (Europe) out because of the way they play.

“They just look as though there’s nothing stopping them at this moment in time. They’re one of the better sides that have come up in recent years.”

McCoist picks out awesome Leeds foursome

All the talk lately has centred around the brilliance of Leeds winger Raphinha. He was an obvious man of the match on Monday, with one piece of skill going viral.

McCoist was quick to highlight the Brazilian’s brilliance too. However, he also named the three other Leeds players who have caught his eye this season.

A look ahead to the Premier League game between Arsenal and Leeds United, including stats on form, possession, shots, cards, corners, top scorers and previous meetings.

He continued: “I know Sheffield United did brilliant (last season), but Leeds in terms of the players they have and going forward – you look at what a signing Raphinha has been… what about that touch of skill on the touchline last night? Poor Gary Cahill, I think he struck oil.

“He’s been tremendous and (Jack) Harrison has been chipping in, (Stuart) Dallas is a good footballer and Kalvin Phillips deservedly gets a lot of credit in the middle of the park.

“They’ve been great, they’ve been everything we’d hoped they’d be in terms of their entertainment value. I like watching good football and I like watching Leeds United, so I can suffer the little blips they have defensively.”
