Pundit ‘nervous’ about Mourinho loan ruining Liverpool star’s progress

Liverpool should avoid sending rising star striker Rhian Brewster on loan to Tottenham and choose a side where he will get more game time, according to one pundit.

Brewster recently rejoined his Liverpool teammates after a stunning loan spell at Swansea. The 20-year-old scored 11 goals in 22 games to guide the Swans into the Championship play-offs.

Indeed, he has continued such blistering form in pre-season. After netting against Stuttgart on Saturday, he came off the bench to rescue Liverpool a draw on Tuesday.

However, it remains unclear whether Brewster will stick around at Anfield, as he did for the first half of last season.

Reports have suggested that Tottenham are one of the sides considering a loan move, but Darren Bent insists Liverpool should look elsewhere.

“You’re messing around with Brewster’s development. He can’t be somebody who sits on the bench,” Bent told Football Insider.

“I would wait and see what happens and go somewhere where he could progress and play. I do like what [Jose] Mourinho’s doing, but I’m just a bit nervous about him not getting enough game time.

“Someone like [Harry] Kane, we’ve seen he has a lot of injuries but at the same time we can’t say that’s going to be the case.

“I would prefer someone like Callum Wilson because I don’t like seeing youngsters go to a club and not get enough game time.

“You look at Ryan Sessegnon. I had really big aspirations for him, I thought he’d do well and he’s hardly kicked a ball down there.”

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp could opt to send Brewster down the same path as fellow forward Harry Wilson. Wilson had a season-long loan at Derby in the Championship before stepping up to the top flight with Bournemouth.

LIVERPOOL FIND LOVREN REPLACEMENT?

Meanwhile, reports suggest Liverpool could move for Celtic’s Kristoffer Ajer as a replacement for Dejan Lovren.

Centre-back Lovren has moved to Zenit St Petersburg and recently scored his first goal for the club.

As such, Liverpool are a man light in the defensive department but could have found an ideal stand-in.
