Pundit points out positive angle to ‘demoralising’ Bruno Fernandes trait

Bruno Fernandes Man Utd v Newcastle February 2021

Ian Wright believes that there is an overriding plus point to Bruno Fernandes becoming increasingly “frustrated” with his Manchester United team-mates.

Fernandes has led from the front impeccably to put United firmly in the hunt for a top-four spot this season.

The Portuguese has scored 15 goals and assisted 11 others, with the Red Devils second in the Premier League table.

Such direct contributions are the most obvious signs of his desire and commitment to Ole Gunnar Solskjaer‘s side. However, the 26-year-old remains a vocal character on the field and off it.

Speaking on the Wrighty’s House podcast, Wright pointed out how Fernandes has taken his frustrations up a notch in recent weeks.

“I look at Bruno Fernandes and he just seems to be getting more and more frustrated with people when I’m watching him,” he said.

“I don’t want people to take this wrong and say, ‘Oh, Wrighty’s digging him out’. I’m not digging him out, I just look at leaders like him, he’s obviously the leader of Manchester United, it’s blatantly obvious to see.

“Dennis [Bergkamp] was the leader for us on the pitch and I never saw him get frustrated with individuals to the point where he was turning and doing that thing because it’s so demoralising for you.

“He [Fernandes] looks like a perfectionist, if everything is not bang on perfect he seems to be upset.”

Fernandes has scored a goal in each of United’s last four Premier League games. He’s also claimed two assists in that time.

The Red Devils are unbeaten in five and while the Premier League title looks a tough ask, they remain six points ahead of fifth-placed Chelsea – who are Sunday’s opponents.

Man Utd reportedly switch centre-back focus

As signings go, Fernandes is up there as arguably the best since Sir Alex Ferguson left in 2013.

However, there remains room for improvement for Solskjaer, especially in defence.

A new centre-back is supposedly a key priority in this summer’s transfer window. However, reports have suggested a change of tack over who to go after.
