Pundit reveals why experienced Premier League midfielder could snub Rangers switch

Former Aston Villa striker Gabby Agbonlahor has suggested that experienced midfielder Fabian Delph may not want to move to Rangers for family reasons.

The 32-year-old former England international is currently a free agent after leaving Everton over the summer and has been linked with numerous clubs.

Football League World reported last week that Rangers, Sheffield United, Middlesbrough, Sunderland and West Brom are all keen on the player.

Some Premier League teams were also keen. However, Delph missed the deadline for when top-flight teams had to register their squads.

And now Agbonlahor suggested that his old Aston Villa teammate has always been a ‘big family man’ and may not want to move to Glasgow.

Agbonlahor told Football Insider: “It’s hard. I think it all depends on what Delph is thinking about doing. He’s had an amazing career, won trophies.

“If he wants to move his family to Scotland and continue playing there, then maybe.

“But it’s hard to judge because I know he’s a big family man. And his kids will be in Manchester settled.

“It will all depend on what Rangers offer him and the package.

Delph still has plenty to offer

“I’m sure, knowing him, that Delph will still want to carry on playing football. He’s an athlete and I’m sure he’ll want to carry on.

“But he might have better options than Rangers, we’re yet to see.”

Delph has featured more than 200 times in the Premier League during spells with Villa, Manchester City and Everton.

The combative midfielder, who also won 20 caps for England, has had his injury struggles though. Indeed, he only made 12 starts in all competitions over the last two seasons.

Rangers are back in action on October 1 when they head to Hearts in the Scottish Premiership for a lunch-time kick-off.
