Pundit slams Arsenal man for moment which almost reduced him to tears

Ian Wright has urged Arsenal to move to a “Plan B” amid their current slump, citing one player who almost reduced him to tears.

Arsenal‘s last Premier League win came when they beat Manchester United 1-0 November. Sandwiched in between that win, though, has been several stagnant performances.

The Gunners have have only scored one goal from open play since the start of October.

Reports have suggested that boss Mikel Arteta allowed his players to hold a furious clear-the-air meeting in training.

Nevertheless, Arsenal head into Sunday’s north London derby needing to produce a performance against Tottenham. According to Ian Wright, Arteta needs to stop relying on key stars who are not performing.

One such player is midfielder Granit Xhaka, who Wright has revealed he was furious at.

“It needs to go to the Plan B, and what is Plan B at the minute? That’s what needs to happen,” the pundit told the Kelly & Wrighty Show (via the Daily Mirror).

“Is Arteta going to go with some of the youngsters, [Mohamed] Elneny’s maybe playing, is he going to stick with Willian?

“I don’t think that’s working out at the moment, too negative.

“I think [Granit] Xhaka at the moment has kind of reverted to type, it’s very negative, this is why we’re getting this stat of 58 passes per shot. We’re passing [too much].”

Wright also claimed that Xhaka is one such player who is chasing impressive passing statistics. He vented his fury at the Switzerland international for his interactions with defender Gabriel Magalhaes.

Xhaka almost induced tears

“You’ve got midfielders who are not willing to take the chance of putting it in there, and they want to get these stats where they’re passing it sideways and they’ve got 99% pass accuracy, passing it five yards to the side,” Wright said.

“If you’re not taking chances, you’re not going to create anything.

“I think one of the stats the other day was the most interaction between two Arsenal players was Xhaka back to Gabriel – it nearly made me burst into tears.”

Arsenal lost to Tottenham in the most recent north London derby. Defender Toby Alderweireld’s headed goal won the day late on in July.
