Borussia Dortmund and England winger Jadon Sancho would be “crazy” to join Manchester United and would struggle to fit in at Liverpool, according to Steve Nicol.
The 19-year-old has enjoyed an astronomical rise in recent seasons to become a key part of his Bundesliga team, as well as one of Three Lions boss Gareth Southgate’s firm favourites.
Sancho has been linked with a move to Manchester United in recent months but speaking to ESPN FC, Nicol urged the winger to avoid a “crazy” move to Old Trafford.
“I think he’s crazy if he goes to Man United,” the pundit said. We’re talking about he’s struggling in a team that’s struggling [Dortmund] – Man United are going to be struggling for a couple of seasons, so I would stay away from there.”
Nicol was also asked about whether Sancho would fit in at Liverpool, responding by saying that he would have to accept a bit-part role behind Liverpool’s front three which would be unlikely to materialise.
“Well if I was advising him, let me put it that way, I would like to see him at Liverpool,” the former Red said.
“I think he would be fantastic. If he could get his head round playing second fiddle to [Sadio] Mane and [Mohamed] Salah, then that would be huge for Liverpool in my opinion. They could save the legs of both of those two and kind of swap the three of them in and out.
“But he’s not going to do that, he’s going to go somewhere to play. So I think Liverpool’s out.”
Liverpool and United have had contrasting starts to the Premier League season, with Jurgen Klopp’s side sitting top having dropped only two points and the Red Devils in seventh after four defeats in 12 games.
