Gary Lineker has heaped praise on Liverpool youngster Curtis Jones after the win over Tottenham, while Alan Shearer also picked out another young Reds star.
The midfielder produced a fine display in the Reds’ 2-1 victory over Spurs, helping his side hit top spot after Roberto Firmino’s late winner.
It continued the 19-year-old’s superb form so far this season, with the player cementing his place in Jurgen Klopp’s side.
His performance earned praise from Match of the Day host Lineker, who spoke of Jones’ potential on social media.
Lineker tweeted: “What a lovely footballer Curtis Jones is. Gonna be a helluva player.”
And it sounds like Liverpool supporters are in full agreemnt.
One replied, as cited by the Liverpool Echo: “Scary thing is, he is even better than what he is showing at the moment. He is doing what all young players do initially, bowing to the more senior players on occasion.
“But once he starts to actually feel he belongs in the team you watch him go! His range of passing is ridiculous.”
Another added: “Deserves his place in the side.”
While a third fan added: “Definitely modelled himself on Steven Gerrard. He’s a special young talent.”
After the match, Shearer, speaking on Amazon Prime, was full of praise for Jones and centre-back Rhys Williams.
He said: “We’ve mentioned the two young boys and I’m gonna mention them again. I make no apologies for that.
“For two 19-year-olds to come in and perform the way they did, under pressure, with big boots to fill, and they never missed anyone tonight.”
Klopp makes Spurs prediction
Jurgen Klopp says Tottenham will be in the Premier League title race “until the end of the season” despite his Liverpool team beating them at Anfield.
Asked whether Spurs can still challenge the Reds for the title, he told Amazon Prime: “I don’t know about pushing [us], we have to push [for the title] ourselves. The situation is really, really difficult and Spurs are one hundred percent one of the favourites for it with the quality they have and the way they play.
“In these ‘top six’ games they are not bothered to sit back and go for the counter which is really difficult to play against.
“Against City they scored an early goal after a smart free-kick routine and then it’s really tough to break them down.
“They will be there until the end of the season, one hundred percent.” Read more…
