Radrizzani continues talks with Leeds ‘one step away’ from big-money signing

Nahitan Nandez, Rogerio

Reports in Sardinia are continuing to push claims that Leeds United are advancing in talks over a deal for Cagliari midfielder Nahitan Nandez.

The Whites are working hard on strengthening their ranks after an excellent ninth-placed finish on their Premier League return. And with the signing of a new left-back in Junior Firpo close, their next target is expected to be a top-class midfielder.

The need to bolster their midfield is an obvious one. Stuart Dallas has impressed in that role and swept the board at their player of the season awards. However, Leeds have looked light in that area whenever talisman Kalvin Phillips has been absent.

Bielsa’s side picked up just six points up from a possible 27 in his absence in 2020/21.

Leeds therefore have been looking for a player who not just covers for Phillips, but also someone who compliments him. One star who has been linked is Nandez. He was mentioned as a target for Leeds and Bielsa all the way back in 2019.

Reports last week stated the Whites were ready to launch a club-record bid to bring Nandez to Elland Road.

However, this claim was strongly dismissed by LeedsLive over the weekend. They stated the midfielder was not close to Leeds, nor was on the club’s wanted list.

Nonetheless, La Nouva Sardegna are convinced Nandez is on Leeds’ radar. Indeed, they claimed earlier this week that Leeds were very much in discussions over his signing.

Now the same paper concurs that Leeds are ‘one step away’ from reaching an agreement on a deal.

June 29 Transfer Chatter - Latest on Ramos future, Roma want Rui Patrício and Chelsea determined to keep Alonso

Sergio Ramos is weighing up his options, with Man City, PSG and Bayern Munich waiting on the Real Madrid defender, Roma are preparing a £13m offer for Wolves keeper Rui Patrício and Chelsea want to keep hold of Marcos Alonso

They claim amicable discussions between Leeds chairman Andrea Radrizzani and Cagliari president Tommaso Giulini are progressing.

As per the Sardinian paper, Leeds have offered two payments of €15m for Nandez. Cagliari, however, are seeking two instalments of €18m.

However, they state common ground won’t be hard to reach and an agreement is closing in to take the Uruguayan to Leeds.

Jack Harrison signing close for Leeds

United are also expected to wrap up the signing of long-term loanee Jack Harrison before the end of the week after a report detailed the exact fee Manchester City will collect.

The winger enjoyed an excellent season in the Premier League with the Yorkshire outfit. He has scored eight times and assisted eight more goals in 36 appearances in 2020/21. Indeed, no other English midfielder was  involved in more goals last season than Harrison.

As per the Manchester Evening News, Leeds will pay City an initial £11m, with the fee reaching £15m in various add-ons. Furthermore, they claim City will likely include a sell-on clause in the deal, most likely for around 20%. That’s designed to protect City’s financial losses against any future sale.

Furthermore, it’s expected that Harrison will sign a four-year deal at Leeds, taking him through to summer 2025.
