Andrea Radrizzani has always made clear his ambitions of restoring Leeds’ place back among the elite – but even he would be hard pushed to make good on a joke about United bringing Champions League football back to Elland Road.
The Whites have made a strong start to the new season and currently top the table on goal difference from Swansea, with Sunday’s 2-0 win at Barnsley ensuring they’ve lost just once of their seven matches played so far.
Marcelo Bielsa was certainly happy with the efforts of opening goalscorer Eddie Nketiah, who registered his fourth of the season in the game, despite playing something of a cameo role so far.
Both Bielsa and Radrizzani have admitted Leeds have unfinished business as far as securing promotion back to the Premier League is concerned, but one supporter already has far grander ambitions after seeing a promotion for the return this week of the Champions League.
The advert shows fans with shirts of Europe’s biggest football clubs – Real Madrid, Juventus, PSG – all getting onto the same coach as tenors sing the famous Champions League anthem.
That prompted one Leeds fan to tweet Radrizzani, saying he wants to see the Whites back among the top table of European football in two years time.
Give me 3 pleaseeee

And that saw Radrizzani – quite a vocal figure on Twitter – come back with a brilliant response, the Italian replying: “Give me three pleaseeee!”
While former Leeds manager David Hockaday once famously promised to deliver a return to the club to the Champions League, we think Radrizzani’s response was delivered with a heavy dose of tongue in cheek.
